History

The first Logan’s Roadhouse in Lexington, Kentucky took the place of a previous steakhouse called Western Sizzlin’. Founders Dave Wachtel (prior CEO of the Shoney’s chain of restaurants) and Charles McWhorter built their new restaurant offering American fare at a low price and a unique dining experience. Because of their good food at a small cost the site of the restaurant went from selling $9,000 a week with Western Sizzlin’ to an approximate $50,000 with Logan’s on average. To further increase revenue, the two men contacted Edwin (Ted) Moats, Jr., a successful restaurateur and graduate of Vanderbilt University. When Moats first came to the scene of Logan’s Roadhouse, the average customer wait for a table was two hours. He recommended that Logan’s increase the kitchen size and add more seating to allow for a larger volume and, therefore, less wait. Due to Moats’ suggestions, a 60 percent increase had taken place in Logan’s weekly sales. Moats then accepted to become President of the company.

Environment

Logan’s Roadhouse is identified by its vintage decorations, local décor, upbeat music, and its representation of the American tradition. This includes Filet Mignon, Pork Chop, Grilled Shrimp, Salmon, and Chicken entrees.
