Most all people from Boston or the New England area are going to love the Boston Red Sox baseball team. The Boston Red Sox is part of the Major League Baseball’s American League Eastern Division. Then by the year of 1918 they had won another four championships but then the unthinkable happened, the Boston Red Sox went into what they call a championship drought. It was known to be the longest championship drought in baseball history.

This drought ended in the year 2004 when the team finally won their sixth World Series. When 2003 hit they were competing in four ALCS, won two World Series, and became arguably one of the most successful MLB teams of the decade. All home games for the Boston Red Sox have been sold out since May 15, 2003 which is a time frame of more than six years, this means its an MLB record. The name Red Sox came from a time long ago when Harry Wright, Manager of the Cincinnati Red Stockings, was asked to organize a team in Boston in 1870. He took three of the Cincinnati players and the name The Boston Red Stockings who won four championships in five seasons in the National Association. The Manager is Terry Francona, the coaches include Tim Bogar, John Farrell, DeMarlo Hale, Ron Johnson, Dave Magadan, and Gary Tuck. The Boston Red Sox left fielder Mike Greenwell is originally from Fort Myers, Florida and as a tradition he brought his team down for spring training. In 1992 the City of Palms Park was built and it holds about 8,000 people, this park is also the home to the Boston Red Sox Rookie team. The City of Palms Park most exciting game was held on March 7, 2004 when the Red Sox played against the New York Yankees and Aaron Boone hit a home run which took the Red Sox out of the playoffs the previous October. The radio station that always covers the Boston Red Sox is WEEI, 850 AM. The voice of the Red Sox comes from Joe Castiglione, he has been doing this job for about 25 years.

The Red Sox has a rule that a player “must have finished their career with Red Sox”, this rule was revoked when Carlton Fisk was elected into the Hall of Fame. Techinically Fisk retired with the White Sox but was hired as a special assistant to the Red Sox for one day by GM Dan Duquette which put Fisk ending his career with the Red Sox. There have been many players retire with the Red Sox, the most recent retirement was on July 28, 2009 Jim Rice, he was number 14.
