Anyone who likes a rock band from out of the United States must hear the music styling’s of U2, they are a rock band from Dublin, Ireland and includes the band mates named Bono the vocalist and guitar, The Edge who plays guitar, keyboard, and vocals, Adam Clayton who plays the bass guitar, and Larry Mullen Jr. who plays the drums and percussion. In 1976 the band came together at Mount Temple secondary school, the band members were just teenagers at the time. These teenagers signed with Island Records just a short four years later. They were quick to release their first album called Boy. Strangely enough the band was liked more when they performed live rather than trying to sell records. That all changed in 1987 when they released their album called The Joshua Tree, Rolling Stones said the band went “from heroes to superstars”.

U2 released an album in 1991 called Achtung Baby, they also had the Zoo TV Tour which was a musical and thematic reinvention for the band. All together U2 has released a total of twelve studio records, this band is known to be the most critically and commercially successful group within popular music. U2 has won a total of 22 Grammy Awards which is much more than any other band. All together they have sold over 145 million records and albums. U2 was accepted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the year of 2005 which was also their very first year of eligibility. The Rolling Stones Magazine has a list of the 100 greatest artists of all time and U2 was put at number 22. The band is very into helping their community and campaigning for human rights and philanthropic causes such as Amnesty International, the ONE Campaign, Product Red, and Bono’s DATA campaign.

U2 said in 2000-2006 that they were “reapplying for the job of the best band in the world”. Ever since then they have acquired a more conventional rock sound mixed with the way they sounded in the 1990’s. The bands first Grammy Award was for The Joshua Tree in 1988 and have won 21 more Grammy Awards since then. These awards include the Best Rock Duo or Group, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Beck Rock Album. U2 has also won 14 Meteor Awards since 2001 in Ireland.
