Fantasy of Flight was voted "Orlando's Best Kept Secret" and for good reason. This is no museum like most other open areas for viewing aircraft collections. Where most collection displays may just have a bunch of planes, real or replicas, this attraction offers so much more. Guests start with an immersive tour of the past and present by experiencing the load roar of aircraft turbines, the gusts of wind, and the smell of a WWII airbase. Guests will be exposed to the inside of multiple planes available at the collection, and are informed that every plane is maintained to flying condition. That's why you will see oil pans underneath some planes in the hangar.
Also found at Orlando's Best Kept Secret are the daily flights by local pilots including the founder Kermit Weeks. Everyday, one plane is flown for the guests to watch as well as to watch the condition of the aircraft.
Fantasy of Flight's goal is to complete a completely immersive environment which guests can walk through to see every plane in the hangar in action. So far, the immersion tour consists of period jumps between the World Wars and an exhibit about the history of flight. But some of the best exhibits are the Tuskegee Airmen display and the fully operated Machine and Wood shops. The Tuskegee airmen were interviewed at Fantasy of Flight and reunited with some of their planes and their reactions were captured on video and played in their exhibit. The Machine and Wood shops have actual craftsmen creating and repairing parts used in the planes at the attraction. Guests are allowed to ask questions and will get guided tours of the workshops as the worker details the process of creating something.
